A relay protection solution based on analog-to-digital converter GX7616 and clock jitter eliminator GX7044, replacing AD7616 and HMC7044

Time:2025-07-17 Views:429
Relay protection is a technical means and device that can quickly, automatically, and selectively isolate, cut off, or issue alarm signals from faulty or abnormal components or equipment in the power system when a fault or abnormal operating state occurs.

The analog-to-digital converter GX7616 is a 16 channel integrated 16 bit 1MSPS bipolar input, dual synchronous sampling ADC data sampling system. Its multi-channel count can meet the requirements of redundant monitoring in three-phase systems. The 14 channel clock jitter eliminator GX7044 can provide synchronous clocks for multi-channel ADCs to ensure consistent sampling phases. Therefore, the GX7616 and GX7044 are very suitable for current/voltage sampling modules in relay protection. In addition, the GX7616 bipolar input supports ± 10V/± 5V, and the LQFP-80 package is fully compatible with ADI‘s AD7616, meeting the high requirements of modern power systems for relay protection systems.
Introduction to the Characteristics of Analog to Digital Converter GX7616:
GX7616 supports dual channel synchronous sampling for 16 channels, with each channel integrated with analog input clamp protection and analog filter. The device also integrates flexible digital filters, a 2.5V precision reference voltage source and reference voltage buffer, as well as serial and parallel interfaces. The chip is powered by a single 5V power supply and can handle true bipolar input signals within the input ranges of ± 10V, ± 5V, and ± 2.5V, as well as ± 16V and ± 8V. Additionally, each pair of channels supports sampling at a throughput rate of up to 1MSPS and a SNR of 90dB. Using on-chip oversampling mode can also achieve higher SNR performance, with an SNR of 91.2dB when the oversampling rate (OSR) is 2.

Introduction to the characteristics of clock jitter eliminator GX7044:
GX7044 is a high-performance dual loop integer and decimal division jitter attenuator compatible with HMC7044. It can perform frequency conversion, select reference signals, and generate ultra-low phase noise clocks to provide to parallel or serial (JESD204B) interfaces of high-speed data converters. The low jitter characteristics ensure the stability of the sampling clock and improve the overall performance of the system. The GX7044 provides 14 low-noise and configurable outputs that can flexibly match many different device interfaces in RF transceiver systems, such as data converters, local oscillators, transmit/receive modules, FPGAs, and digital front-end (DFE) ASICs.

Summary: The relay protection solution based on the analog-to-digital converter GX7616 and clock jitter eliminator GX7044 fully utilizes the characteristics and advantages of the two chips, providing high-precision signal acquisition and stable clock protection for the relay protection system. This scheme has the characteristics of high integration, superior performance, and strong adaptability, which can meet the high requirements of modern power systems for relay protection systems.
