LTC5549 Replacement: GX5549 Pin-to-Pin Hardware and Software Compatible Broadband Mixer
Broadband microwave mixers are widely used for frequency conversion in RF and microwave systems. When replacing a mixer in an existing design, differences in pin configuration, RF interfaces, control logic or operating frequency range can require PCB redesign and additional system verification.
GXSC GX5549 is developed as a direct alternative to LTC5549 for broadband upconversion and downconversion applications. It provides pin-to-pin hardware compatibility as well as software and control compatibility, allowing existing LTC5549-based designs to migrate to GX5549 without changing the PCB or existing control software.
GX5549 supports an RF operating range of 2 GHz to 14 GHz, an LO range of 1 GHz to 12 GHz and an IF range of 0.5 GHz to 6 GHz. In addition to replacement applications, GX5549 can also be evaluated for new microwave transceivers, phased-array systems, radar, satellite communication and other broadband RF designs.
GX5549 as a Direct LTC5549 Replacement and a Choice for New RF Designs
For products currently using LTC5549, GX5549 provides a direct migration path while retaining the existing board and system architecture.
GX5549 is a passive dual-balanced broadband mixer supporting both upconversion and downconversion. Its wide RF, LO and IF frequency ranges make it suitable for broadband microwave frequency-conversion applications.
For new product development, GX5549 can also be integrated into RF and microwave signal chains requiring wide operating bandwidth, high linearity and flexible frequency conversion. It is therefore suitable for both existing LTC5549-based products and completely new RF system designs.

Pin-to-Pin Hardware and Software Compatibility with LTC5549
Compatibility is especially important when replacing an RF device in an existing system, where changes to PCB layout, RF interfaces or control logic can result in additional engineering and verification work.
GX5549 is pin-to-pin hardware compatible with LTC5549 and is designed for direct board-level replacement. Existing PCB designs can therefore retain their original layout without redesign.
GX5549 also provides software and control compatibility with LTC5549-based systems. Existing control logic and software can be retained when migrating from LTC5549 to GX5549.
This allows GX5549 to replace LTC5549 directly without modification to the existing PCB or software, helping reduce redesign effort and shorten replacement evaluation and verification.

GX5549 maintains the key broadband frequency-conversion capabilities required by LTC5549-based systems while providing a direct compatible device option for existing designs and a broadband mixer solution for new projects.
Broadband Frequency Conversion Performance and Applications
GX5549 integrates a passive dual-balanced mixer core with internal RF balun functionality and an LO amplification chain. The LO input supports frequencies from 1 GHz to 12 GHz with a typical required LO power of only 0 dBm.
The integrated IF balun supports a single-ended 50-ohm IF interface from 0.5 GHz to 6 GHz. An integrated LO frequency multiplier can be enabled or disabled through a CMOS-compatible control interface, allowing lower LO input frequencies when required by the system architecture.
Key GX5549 performance specifications include:
l RF operating bandwidth: 2–14 GHz
l LO operating bandwidth: 1–12 GHz
l IF operating bandwidth: 0.5–6 GHz
l Typical LO drive: 0 dBm
l Downconversion input P1dB: 15 dBm
l Upconversion input P1dB: 14 dBm
l Downconversion IIP3: 27 dBm
l Upconversion IIP3: 24 dBm
l Supply voltage: 3.3 V
l Package: QFN
