ADS1291 Replacement: GX1291 Fully Hardware and Software Compatible 24-Bit ECG AFE
GX1291 is designed for high-precision ECG, EEG and EMG signal acquisition. It supports output data rates up to 32 kSPS and integrates the principal analog and monitoring functions required by portable and single-channel biopotential measurement systems.
Integrated right-leg drive, lead-off detection, digital pacemaker detection and low-noise signal acquisition help reduce peripheral circuitry, PCB size and overall system power consumption.
GX1291 as a Direct ADS1291 Replacement
GX1291 provides single-channel, 24-bit delta-sigma conversion with single-ended and differential input configurations. Its integrated PGA supports the amplification of low-level biopotential signals before conversion.
The compatible 4 mm × 4 mm QFN-32 package, pin configuration and SPI interface support direct board-level replacement for ADS1291. Existing designs can retain their original schematic, PCB, processor interface and acquisition software.
GX1291 is suitable for both existing ADS1291-based products and new medical signal-acquisition designs.
Pin-to-Pin Hardware and Software Compatibility
GX1291 provides pin-to-pin hardware compatibility with ADS1291. Existing analog input connections, power architecture, clock and reference circuits, control signals and SPI connections can continue to be used.
Software compatibility allows existing MCU, DSP or FPGA register configuration and data-reading routines to be retained. This helps reduce product redesign work and shorten the migration cycle from ADS1291 to GX1291.
The integrated reference and frequency-adjustable oscillator also simplify external circuitry for compact ECG and wearable medical products.

GX1291 maintains the principal architecture and monitoring functions of ADS1291 while providing an output data rate of up to 32 kSPS for higher-bandwidth signal acquisition and digital pacemaker detection.
Low-Noise ECG and Biopotential Signal Acquisition
At a PGA gain of 12, GX1291 achieves input-referred noise as low as 0.20 µVrms or 1.24 µVpp. It also provides an SNR of 87 dB at the maximum 32 kSPS output data rate.
The lead-off detection circuit uses configurable current sink and source settings from 6 nA to 399 nA. Multiplexer configurations support offset testing, temperature detection and channel testing through the main ADC signal path.
