ADS1299-4 Replacement: GX1299-4 Pin-Compatible 4-Channel 24-Bit EEG ADC

Time:2026-09-16 Views:11

GX1299-4 is a four-channel, low-noise analog front end developed for EEG, fetal ECG and precision biopotential acquisition. Its integrated architecture reduces the external components, board area and system power required by medical and research instruments.

The QFP-64 version provides direct replacement for ADS1299-4, allowing existing systems to retain their schematic, PCB and processor software. A compact BGA-64 package is also available for new space-constrained designs.

GX1299-4 as a Direct ADS1299-4 Replacement

GX1299-4 retains the four-channel, 24-bit simultaneous-sampling delta-sigma architecture used by ADS1299-4. Each channel integrates a programmable gain amplifier for acquiring low-amplitude EEG and other biopotential signals.

Compatible analog inputs, reference and clock connections, patient-bias circuitry, control pins and SPI interface support direct migration from ADS1299-4. Existing MCU, DSP or FPGA acquisition logic and software can continue to be used.

GX1299-4 supports output data rates from 250 SPS to 64 kSPS, providing additional bandwidth for EEG, evoked-potential and high-speed biopotential measurements.

Pin-to-Pin Hardware and Software Compatibility

The 10 mm × 10 mm QFP-64 version of GX1299-4 is designed for pin-to-pin hardware compatibility with ADS1299-4. Existing electrode-input networks, reference circuits, SRB connections, patient-bias output and SPI control signals can be retained.

GX1299-4 also supports software and interface compatibility with ADS1299-4 systems. Existing register configuration, channel-control procedures, interface timing and data-readout software can continue operating without modifying the processor interface.

For new compact equipment, GX1299-4 is also available in an 8 mm × 8 mm BGA-64 package. Both package versions operate from −40°C to +85°C.

GX1299-4 preserves the principal architecture and EEG acquisition functions of ADS1299-4 while providing a higher maximum data rate, a 16-sample digital buffer and an additional compact BGA package option.

Low-Noise Acquisition and System Monitoring

At 250 SPS and a gain of 24, GX1299-4 achieves input-referred noise of 1.28 µVpp or 0.23 µVrms over a 70 Hz bandwidth. At 64 kSPS, it provides a −3 dB bandwidth of 14.4 kHz for higher-frequency biopotential signals.

The input multiplexer supports offset testing, temperature monitoring, power-supply measurement and channel self-test. It can also select the common-mode level of any input channel to generate the patient-bias output signal.

Optional SRB connections route a common reference signal to multiple inputs for referential montage configurations. Integrated pull-up and pull-down resistors, excitation current sources and AC lead-off detection support electrode-connection monitoring.
