FPGA is a key component for complex digital signal processing and high-speed data transmission, with high parallel processing capability and flexible and configurable characteristics. FPGA generates a large amount of heat during high load operation of large-scale logic operations and high-speed interface data transmission. Excessive temperature can lead to a decrease in FPGA clock frequency, an increase in signal delay, and a decrease in stability. Therefore, it is necessary to perform high-precision and real-time temperature monitoring on FPGA, and dynamically adjust the load or activate heat dissipation measures according to the temperature.
The temperature monitor chip GX2990 is suitable for monitoring the voltage, current, and temperature of board level systems. The single ended voltage resolution is as low as 305.18 μ V, the differential voltage resolution is as low as 19.075 μ V, and the temperature resolution is as low as 0.0625 ℃. Within the temperature range of -40 ℃ to 125 ℃, the voltage measurement accuracy is better than 0.25%, the current measurement accuracy is better than 0.75%, and the temperature measurement accuracy is better than 1.8 ℃. It is suitable for single or mixed system applications of voltage, current, and temperature, and is highly compatible with the requirements of FPGA temperature monitoring for "precision, real-time, low consumption, and multiple measurement points".

GX2990 supports two input methods: 4-channel single ended voltage and 2-channel differential voltage, which can achieve voltage measurement, current measurement, or remote BJT temperature measurement. Supports standard I2C dual line interface and standard I2C protocol, with 2 hardware optional address bits, capable of expanding up to 4 chips. GX2990 integrates a temperature sensor and a voltage sensor internally to monitor the operating temperature and voltage of the chip itself.
Introduction to the main features of GX2990:
Can measure 4-channel single ended voltage or 2-channel differential voltage (current) or 2-channel remote temperature
A single or any combination of measurable voltage, current, and temperature
Measurable chip‘s own operating voltage and temperature
Better than 0.75% single ended voltage measurement accuracy and 305.18uV resolution
Measurement accuracy of differential voltage and current better than 0.75%, with a resolution of 19.075 μ V
Remote temperature measurement accuracy better than 1.8 ℃, resolution of 0.0625 ℃
Internal temperature measurement accuracy better than 1.5 ℃, resolution of 0.0625 ℃
14 bit ADC for measuring voltage/current
Operating range of 2.9V to 5.5V power supply
I2C interface, with 4 optional addresses, can accommodate up to 4 shared buses
Internal 10ppm/℃ voltage reference
The rated ESD protection level of V1~V4 analog input pins is 6kVHBM
GX2990 integrates a high-precision benchmark with a temperature drift of 10ppm/℃ internally, without the need for external benchmark references. Therefore, compared to other solutions, it reduces the number of components and material costs required for engineering applications, and also reduces the PCB footprint, improving the integration of the board.
