LTC2991 Replacement: GX1991 Pin-to-Pin Voltage, Current and Temperature Monitor

发布日期:2026-08-18 点击次数:195

Voltage, current and temperature monitoring is widely required in power supplies, communication equipment, industrial electronics, computing systems and other board-level applications. For products already designed around LTC2991, changing to a monitoring IC with a different pin configuration or interface can require PCB redesign and additional engineering verification.

GXSC GX1991 is designed as a pin-to-pin hardware-compatible alternative to LTC2991. It integrates voltage, current and temperature monitoring functions in a compact 16-pin MSOP package and supports a standard I²C two-wire interface for communication with MCUs, FPGAs and DSPs.

GX1991 supports up to eight single-ended voltage inputs or four differential input pairs. The differential channels can be used for current sensing or remote BJT temperature measurement, while an integrated temperature sensor and voltage monitor provide additional monitoring of the device itself.

With a 2.9 V to 5.5 V supply range, an integrated high-precision reference and flexible channel configuration, GX1991 can be used both for LTC2991 replacement projects and for new board-level system monitoring designs.

GX1991 as a Pin-to-Pin LTC2991 Replacement and a Choice for New Designs

For systems currently using LTC2991, GX1991 provides a pin-to-pin hardware-compatible replacement option while retaining the existing board-level footprint and physical device interface.

GX1991 combines voltage, current and temperature monitoring in a single device. Its eight input channels can operate as single-ended voltage measurement channels or can be paired into four differential channels for current sensing and remote BJT temperature measurement.

The device also integrates its own temperature sensor and supply voltage monitoring function, allowing system designers to monitor multiple board conditions using a single monitoring IC.

For new designs, GX1991 can be used in power monitoring, thermal management, remote data acquisition and environmental monitoring systems requiring multiple measurement channels and standard I²C communication.

Pin-to-Pin Hardware Compatibility with LTC2991 and Standard I2C Interface

GX1991 is designed as a pin-to-pin hardware-compatible alternative to LTC2991, allowing engineers to evaluate it within existing LTC2991 board designs without changing the device footprint.

Both devices use an I²C serial interface for communication with a host controller. GX1991 supports the standard I²C two-wire protocol and can be accessed by common system controllers including MCUs, FPGAs and DSPs.

GX1991 also provides three hardware-selectable address bits, allowing up to eight device addresses. This makes it possible to use multiple monitoring devices on the same I²C bus when additional measurement channels are required.

Because measurement configuration and data acquisition are performed through the I²C interface, firmware and register-level compatibility should be verified during replacement evaluation according to the specific operating modes used by the existing system.

GX1991 maintains the key multi-channel monitoring functions required in LTC2991-based systems, including single-ended voltage measurement, differential measurement, remote temperature sensing, internal monitoring and I²C communication.

High-Precision Voltage, Current and Temperature Monitoring

GX1991 is designed for simultaneous board-level monitoring requirements where voltage, current and temperature information must be acquired through a compact device.

The integrated high-precision reference has a temperature drift of 10 ppm/°C, eliminating the need for an external voltage reference and helping reduce external component count, PCB area and system complexity.

GX1991 also supports remote BJT temperature measurement. A PWM output associated with the V7/V8 remote temperature channel can be used by the system for functions such as fan-speed control or heater control.

Key GX1991 performance specifications include:

l Single-ended channels: 8

l Differential channel pairs: 4

l Single-ended voltage resolution: 305.18 μV

l Differential voltage resolution: 19.075 μV

l Temperature resolution: 0.0625°C

l Voltage measurement accuracy: Better than 0.25%

l Current measurement accuracy: Better than 0.75%

l Temperature measurement accuracy: Better than 1.8°C

l Supply voltage: 2.9–5.5 V

l Data interface: I²C

l Selectable I²C addresses: Up to 8

l Internal reference temperature drift: 10 ppm/°C

l Remote BJT temperature measurement: Supported

l PWM temperature output: Supported

l Operating temperature range: -40°C to 125°C

l Package: 16-pin MSOP

These capabilities make GX1991 suitable for temperature measurement, power supply voltage monitoring, current measurement, remote data acquisition, environmental monitoring and other board-level system monitoring applications.

Integrated Monitoring for Power, Thermal and Board-Level Systems

By integrating voltage sensing, differential current-sense measurement, internal temperature sensing, remote BJT temperature measurement and an internal precision reference, GX1991 can reduce the number of separate monitoring components required in a system.

The eight input channels provide flexibility for monitoring multiple voltage rails or combining voltage, current and temperature measurements within the same device.

The PWM temperature output can also be incorporated into thermal-management systems, allowing the measured remote temperature to support fan-speed or heater-control functions.

GX1991 can therefore be evaluated for power supply monitoring, industrial control equipment, communication systems, computing hardware, test equipment, remote data acquisition and environmental monitoring applications.
