MB85RC512 / FM24C512 Replacement: GX24C512 Pin-Compatible 512-Kbit I²C FRAM

发布日期:2026-08-19 点击次数:68

GX24C512 is a 512-Kbit ferroelectric random access memory developed for systems requiring fast and reliable nonvolatile data storage. Its memory array is organized as 65,536 words × 8 bits and is accessed through a standard two-wire I²C interface.

Unlike SRAM, GX24C512 retains stored data without a battery or continuous power supply. Unlike conventional Flash memory and EEPROM, it does not require an erase operation, acknowledge polling or an internal write-cycle delay after a write operation.

The SOP-8 version supports direct replacement of compatible MB85RC512-based systems operating from 2.7 V to 3.6 V. Compatibility with FM24C512-based products depends on the exact device version and supply voltage because the original FM24C512 is a 5 V device.

GX24C512 as an MB85RC512 and FM24C512 Replacement

GX24C512 provides the same 512-Kbit capacity and 65,536 × 8-bit organization used by MB85RC512 and FM24C512-family devices. Its I²C interface supports connection to MCUs, DSPs, FPGAs and other embedded processors.

For compatible MB85RC512 SOP-8 systems operating from 2.7 V to 3.6 V, GX24C512 provides a direct migration path while retaining the existing schematic, PCB footprint and memory-access software.

GX24C512 is also suitable for new industrial control, smart-metering, instrumentation and data-logging designs requiring higher storage capacity and rapid nonvolatile writes.

Pin, Hardware and Software Compatibility

The SOP-8 version of GX24C512 is designed for pin-level hardware compatibility with compatible MB85RC512 and FM24C512-family pin configurations. Existing SDA, SCL, device-address, write-protect and ground connections can be retained.

GX24C512 also supports compatible I²C memory access and control functions. Existing device addressing, read/write routines and memory-control software can continue to be used when the system complies with the GX24C512 electrical and timing requirements.

The following replacement conditions should be verified:

The GX24C512 supply voltage must remain between 2.7 V and 3.6 V.

MB85RC512 versions supporting lower voltages can be replaced directly only when the actual system supply does not fall below 2.7 V.

The original FM24C512 operates from a 5 V supply and is not directly voltage-compatible with GX24C512. Replacing it may require modification of the power rail and I²C pull-up voltage.

Low-voltage 512-Kbit devices such as FM24V05 are closer electrical references for GX24C512.

The I²C frequency, interface timing, device-address configuration and pull-up resistors must comply with the GX24C512 datasheet.

Pin-to-pin replacement applies to the matching SOP-8 version. The bare-die option requires a suitable die-attach, wire-bonding and packaging design.
