ADAR1000 Functional Replacement: GX1002 5–18 GHz Four-Channel Beamformer
GX1002 is a broadband, half-duplex beamforming IC operating from 5 GHz to 18 GHz. Compared with the 8 GHz to 16 GHz ADAR1000, it extends frequency coverage across additional C-, X- and Ku-band applications.
GX1002 provides comparable system-level beamforming functions but is not a pin-to-pin replacement. Migration requires changes to the package implementation, schematic, PCB, power supplies, RF interfaces and control software.
GX1002 as a Functional ADAR1000 Replacement
GX1002 integrates four transmit paths, four receive paths and a four-way RF splitter/combiner. Each channel provides independent 7-bit phase and 6-bit amplitude adjustment for beam steering, channel calibration and amplitude tapering.
The device also provides 121 programmable beam states, dual-pin T/R control and a rotationally symmetric RF-port arrangement for flexible phased-array front-end designs.
Hardware and Software Changes Required for ADAR1000 Migration
GX1002 and ADAR1000 support the principal functions required by four-channel phased arrays, including half-duplex T/R operation, 360° phase adjustment, 31.5 dB amplitude control, beam memory, four-wire SPI, power detection and external front-end bias control.
However, ADAR1000 uses an LGA-88 package, while GX1002 is supplied as a bare die. Their pin definitions, power architecture, RF interfaces, T/R control and register maps are different.
Replacing ADAR1000 with GX1002 therefore requires redesign of the mounting structure, schematic, PCB or substrate, RF matching, power supplies and control software.
